  10. Helga was a much loved member of the Uniting Church in Leongatha. We loved her. She was very generous to children and followed their participation in sport closely.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Thank you Helga for your example of faith.

  17. Aunty Helga, a positive, generous, and sweet-natured woman, always looked for the best in everyone and every situation. Her bright blue eyes and huge smile lit up the room, and she always insisted that you needed to eat something she had made or at least have a cuppa with her. I loved spending time in her cozy kitchen, which had undergone a transformation over the years from having a blazing hot wood-burning stove to a conventional stove and microwave. No matter how many guests were in her home, there was always enough good, wholesome food to share, and a place for you at her table. Aunty Helga truly embodied the Christian spirit of generosity, service, and kindness.

On the other hand, Aunty Helga was also quite competitive. Whether it was playing cards with her sisters and brothers or competing in the local women’s golf league, she was always up for a challenge. The only time I played 9 holes with her and her kids at Leongatha Golf Course one summer, I was too young to appreciate that she was an accomplished player. However, having taken up golf later in my own life, I continue to be inspired by Aunty Helga both on and off the golf course.

    Love you and miss you,
