  10. DAD
I didn’t get a chance to speak at your funeral…This is my tribute to you

I find myself asking, when I write the word Dad .. What does it mean to me
My dad wasn’t an openly loving, caring, talkative, affectionate dad that I would expect a dad to be..
What do I say then.. I will say this..
He was a man that was completely and totally loyal and devoted to one woman, my mum. She was the one for him. He didn’t need another life partner. He would stay alone, for to find another, would not define the man he was. He was a Swan. One love.. So he taught me to be loyal.
He was respectful… If he respected you, you knew it, if he didn’t you knew it. He didn’t suffer fools lightly. He was a man that commanded respect, not by what he said but what he didnt say. If he liked you, he may give you a sneaky smile, a nod, a message that would translate into I dont mind you. So he taught me to be respectful of those that warrant respect.
He was a Sagittarius, literally a straight shooter. No mincing words or actions. No tolerance for idiots. No tolerance for most people. If he could shoot an arrow, it would land in the centre of the target. He knew what he needed and what he didn’t. So he taught me to be a straight shooter.
He was smart, he was intelligent, he was not a communicator in his words, but in his actions. He was a good provider, he rarely got angry, but often got frustrated.. He was a success in his life as he will be in his afterlife.
Thanks dad.. I may not have realised what you gave me until now, but I think you do know I appreciate you were part of the reason I am me…

I would like to have had an opportunity to speak at your funeral.

This is my tribute to you

As I look back over time
    I find myself wondering
Did I remember to thankyou enough
    For what you have done
    To doing crosswords together
    To drinking together
    Buying special things for me

    To celebrate our successes
    To understand our problems
To not complain if our visits were few and far between

Or for teaching me by your example
The value of hard work, good judgement, courage and integrity
I wonder if we ever thanked you enough
    For the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times shared
If I have forgotten to show my gratitude enough for all the things you did
    I am thanking you now

I am hoping you knew all along
How much you meant to me

You left me in peaceful thoughts
Your memories is still my guide
And though I cannot see you
You are always at my side.
