  17. epitaph for Shirley by Toni
    Present Tense
    Shirley died yesterday
She is now officially passed on
But if we refer to her in the past tense
We are disregarding that she is (was) still very much a part of our lives and she will be there forever
We all feel her loss and wish she is (was) still here
The fact is that she is (was) a wonderful woman
    A gifted shortbread maker
    An unassuming bright spark
A get your hands dirty sort of a person
Always quick with a smile and to share a hug
Diminutive in size but not in nature
You name it and she’ll be (was) in it
A good sport and good at sport
An all-rounder with a good innings – ninety years
    Not to be scoffed at
    Well done, Shirley
So let your tears fall as we all grieve for you
    Shirley
But you will be ever present in our memories
    Lots of love
    Farewell my friend
    In sorrow
    Toni
