Graeme WinklerGreat memories of the fun times growing up in leogatha in the 70s. His brother Simon and I were Johnny’s cheer squad watching him running around winning the footy. Always drinks afterwards to celebrate, win or lose.
Snooker at Harry Davies Snooker room, followed by many beers at the Pub. A game of poker or 500 somewhere.
Great memories of a top bloke and true friend.Noel Drury

Will never forget the night you and I unknowingly filled your Wolsley with kero, never seen so much smoke out of an exhaust. June 24, 2025So sorry to hear that Johnny has passed away. We’ve been mates since primary school and there are so many stories it would take weeks to ever remember. Such a brilliant reminder of his life journey and all the great times we had when I read the comments above from old friends and the guys from Venus Bay.

Those adventures after school with Butch and Chook and Pedro and Jimmy Sinema up the tree behind the hospital, or wagging class to play snooker at Harry’s. Or our many escapades at VBSLSC: such as rowing the oldest surf boat in Victoria down the Yarra during Moomba and having a dip in the fountain at the art gallery, or getting lost in the fog offshore Torquay ( in the same boat!), or the time we all ran from Venus Bay to St Kilda, etc etc etc. Whenever I made it home I’d always drop in to Bairs looking for Chooka. The last trip was a couple of years ago and the best part was introducing John to my daughter Steph, and enjoying the many laughs as we shared some of our history with her.
RIP old mate. We’ll meet again one day.
Jim ForsythSad news – lots of happy childhood memories in McCartin St throwing acorns at each other & hiding refreshments in the veggie garden to take to the pictures.

June 30, 2025For the past 52 years, a treasured and loyal friend of the Hogan family. How he enjoyed a day or late night of frivolity finishing up with Mrs Jim’s rissoles on toast. Never a problem at midnight or later!!

Truly loved by all the family and friends who meet “The Chook” with his easy going and friendly persona.
We all regularly would get asked – How’s Chook doing? And drop into Bairs Hotel for regular catch-ups.
Fondly remembered by all and a lifelong of wonderful memories, especially the annual Xmas beers enjoyed by the Fleming & Hogan extended families at Bairs.
Truly great friend, several bucket loads of great memories, gone far too early, and will be sadly missed.
Jimmie, (Matt) + 6 Chook devotee’sFarewell Chook! Always lots of laughs and shenanigans when hanging out with you. A loyal and humble good human.

A lot of memories from school, footy with the parrots and having a beer or a punt at McCartins and Bairs. Although I moved away after school would always come back and head to Bairs annually and there was Chook for a beer and a lot of reminiscing.
Top bloke who would always have your back.
Condolence to the Fleming family
